hot dog

In vast metal vats, tons of pork trimmings are mixed with the pink slurry formed when chicken carcasses are squeezed through metal grates and blasted with water.
The mush is mixed with powdered preservatives, flavourings, red colouring and drenched in water before being squeezed into plastic tubes to be cooked and packaged.
Traditional hot dogs are made from pork trimmings — the pieces left over after chops, bacon and ham has been cut away — along with chicken or turkey.
The meat is ground into a paste and mixed with water, preservatives, flavouring and colours.
The Red Dogs varieties on sale at Tesco contain very little real meat. Instead, they are made up of 64 per cent mechanically-recovered chicken. Only 17 per cent is pork.

Mechanically-recovered meat is the slimy paste created when a carcass — stripped of all traditional cuts — is forced through a metal sieve or blasted with water.
The process is banned for beef after the BSE scare of the Nineties, but is permitted for pigs and poultry, and the meat produced is ten times cheaper than normal meat.
Perhaps surprisingly, there is nothing particularly unhealthy about the product, and it’s approved by the Food Standards Agency. But under EU food rules, it is not classed as meat and must be labelled as mechanically recovered.

---hot dog is a common food for american, but they don't actually know what made it of ,they think it taste good ,ignore the bad effect of this food, actually ,hot dog ,like this kind of sausage has a lot of calories and contain much of salt ,which cause people's health problem, and the meat from the hot dog is not the common meat we eat,is the leftover of the things we eat.

3/8--Starch
All sausages — from the cheapest, nastiest brands, to the luxury free-range organic ones — are bulked out with carbohydrate starch.
Hot dogs usually contain potato starch, wheat flour or rusk mixed with salt, baked and crumbled.
Starches give more volume to a hot dog. They also bind ingredients together, and make the mechanically-recovered meat and pork trimmings feel more pleasant on the tongue.

SALT
Hot dogs contain around 2 per cent salt, which means they are classed as high-salt foods — and if eaten in excess can increase your risk of high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease.
A single 35g frankfurter has up to 0.6g of salt — one tenth of a teaspoon and one tenth of an adult’s daily recommended amount.

E250 — Sodium nitrite
Processed meat increases the risk of bowel cancer and sodium nitrite is thought to be largely to blame. It is added to hot dogs to stop them going grey, and keep microbes at bay.
Studies on animals have linked sodium nitrites to an increased risk of cancer.

Flavours
By law, hot dog packets don’t have to say what flavourings are used in them. Many use artificial smoke flavouring, herbs, spices, celery and garlic powder.

A few brands use the chemical monosodium glutamate — MSG, or E621 – to enhance the flavour. MSG gives food a ‘meaty’ feel and is used in soups, sauces and, infamously, Chinese takeaways.
MSG has been accused of causing allergies, headaches and dehydration. However, despite the health scares, there is no hard evidence that MSG is bad for you, and it is found naturally in broccoli, mushrooms and tomatoes.

Modified Corn Starch Uses

Stabilizing
As mentioned before, corn starch thickens various food products. It is also added to frozen foods to attain the right creamy consistency when heated. When thawing frozen foods, it’s the modified corn starch added that keeps them stable.
Emulsifying
An emulsifier helps two “repelling” liquids to mix well. For example, modified corn starch emulsifies oil and water in salad dressings.
Thickening
In fat-free products, modified corn starch is added to impart a lovely, creamy texture. It is also added to instant desserts, like puddings, to add thickness to its consistency.
Anti-caking
Modified corn starch is great at keeping powdered foods from clumping together, like instant gravy powder.
Binding
Modified corn starch is added to low-fat meat products so the meat binds instead of falling apart.
Moisture Retaining
Modified corn starch is a cheap way to keep foods moist. The phosphate in modified corn starch absorbs water, which helps retain moisture in foods.
Prevents Melting
Modified corn starch is added to ice creams and other frozen foods to prevent melting. It is also added to read-to-eat frozen foods, which prevents the food from becoming soggy when microwaved.

Modified Corn Starch

Modified corn starch (also called modified food starch) is an additive that's made by treating starch, which modifies one or more of its physical properties. This change may affect the texture, how fast it dissolves, or how easily it can be digested. The starch can come from corn (as stated) but can also be made from wheat, potato, rice, or tapioca. It's added to foods to act as a thickener, to acquire a certain texture, or to keep foods moist.

Modified food starch is typically added to processed foods such as sauces, pie fillings, and gravies. They're not healthy in the respect that they don't add any nutritional value to food, but they aren't harmful. People who have gluten allergies should stay away from this ingredient though, unless a food containing it is labeled "gluten free."

i opposed the  genetic modification of food.

the food can leave the bad material behind inside us,possibly causing long-term problems.

The potential impact is huge, threatening the health of future generations.

Overuse of Roundup results in “superweeds,” resistant to the herbicide. This is causing farmers to use even more toxic herbicides every year.

Social Restrictions in the Victorian Era

During the Victorian era, people placed an emphasis on social etiquette. Those who acted in a rude way or ignored the social restrictions of the era became a subject of gossip and often found themselves without invitations to dinner, events or parties. Victorian era social restrictions focused on modesty, polite introductions and avoiding displays of emotion.

Dress

  • Women wore dresses that extended to the floor. Women were not permitted to show both ankles at the same time. The only acceptable time for a women to reveal any of her ankle was when a woman crossed the street, walked up the stairs or stepped over a puddle. Women asked for assistance when sitting rather than lifting their skirts. Men wore modest clothing, bathed regularly and avoided wearing excessive amounts of perfume.

Victorian Period Fashion
Before this time, men are in the forehead of fashion, but until this time, the queen is in charge, women stated to look for the fashion.
--way to be similar to a girl from Victorian period
  •  remember, their clothing covered their WHOLE body. Even the glimpse of an ankle is a stereotype "no-no.
  • "Wear Cloaks, not coats! Instead of coats, women wore shawls or cloaks when cold.
  •   Know the Length of skirts. As young as 4 years old girls must cover their knee and sixteen year old girls must cover their ankles. If you are in that age range, you have free to customize your skirts within that range.
  • Know the exceptions. One exception to full body coverings. Ball gowns or formal attire. You may show your shoulders and/or breast line.
  • Consider Bustles and Corsets. Corsets can have the power to crush your internal organs and lower sets of ribs, so as far a recommending them, most would not. Bustles were designed to hold the skirt up and a very modernized and simple way to make one is to tie a pillow with a belt under your skirt.
  • Wear Gloves are a total Victorian giveaway. Especially with lace, these gloves are a great way to show you love Victorian times. It really doesn't matter if its white or black, but black is the most Victorian-looking.
  • Wear brooches. Brooches are very Victorian. While people from Victorian time mostly wore ones containing plain silver or pearls, emerald is accepted, too.
  • Add a stylish hat. Hats make the look. If you find a very nice looking antique hat, buy it. You can wear it! It makes the look.
  • Stay way from bright colors.
  • Focus on pastels and dark colors.
